From Traffic Rules to Park Rides: A Cycling Initiation in Antwerp

Cycling is an essential part of Belgian culture. Whether commuting to school, heading to work, or meeting friends, Belgians naturally choose the bike. It’s fast, sustainable, and often the easiest way to get around.

To help international students feel confident navigating the city like locals, Study in Antwerp organized a two-hour cycling initiation on February 7. During the first hour, students discovered the essential Belgian traffic rules, from right-of-way to important road signs. With safety first in mind, they prepared for their first real ride in the city.

After the theory session, it was time to hop on the bikes. The group headed to Park Spoor Noord, surrounded by greenery and open space, where they could practice steering, braking, and riding with confidence on two wheels.

The cycling initiation was about more than transportation, it was about integration. By embracing one of Belgium’s most beloved habits. With initiatives like this, Study in Antwerp helps students feel at home in the city from day one. And who knows? After this session, they might just start choosing the bike like true Belgians.
